Relocation soon for Arad jet fuel tanks
Manama : A big relief finally for the Arad residents as authorities here have decided to relocate the jet fuel tanks soon, which the residents claimed for years are posing a “grave threat to their lives”.
The aviation fuel tanks, according to Bahrain Aviation Fuelling Company (BAFCO), will be relocated to a new complex at the Bahrain International Airport by next November.
The company also revealed: “Construction works of the foundation of the new fuel tanks are nearing completion.”
“The project which extends over 77,000 square metres of area in the northeast of Bahrain International Airport houses three tanks each of 10,000 cubic metres in capacity,” said Abdulmajeed Al Qassab, BAFCO Board of Directors Chairman.
DT News spoke to the area representative MP Ali Al Moqla who welcomed the announcement.
He told DT News that it was really “necessary to move the tanks from the area considering residents’ safety.” “If anything goes wrong, the results will be catastrophic,” Al Moqla said.
Al Moqla also thanked Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, citing the directives given by the Premier in December 2014.
