Bahrain launches Technology Week

Manama : Bahrain yesterday announced the launch of Technology Week, a dynamic programme of activities and events dedicated to technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

As part of the move, Amazon Web Services (AWS) brought the cloud computing community together for the Middle East’s first ever AWS Summit, held under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and attended by His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Information.

Commenting on the occasion, Director General of the First Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said, “The active support of Crown Prince for initiatives such as this stems from a belief that it would result in creating new jobs, expanding existing sectors and developing new industries to create a sustainable, successful economy.”

He also hailed the vital role played by His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa to encourage public-private sector partnerships across the ICT sector.

Speaking at the launch, Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of EDB, said: “The huge level of interest we’ve seen in Bahrain’s Technology Week reflects the momentum in the region behind innovation and a growing start-up culture.”

“Economic transformation across the Middle East is opening up opportunities within the private sector, and Bahrain has taken great strides in recent years to ensure the Kingdom has the right infrastructure in place to encourage businesses to thrive,” he added.

The Bahrain Technology Week pavilion is open to the public from 25-29 September from 5.00pm to 9.00pm at Bahrain Bay.
