Stray dogs pose danger to public in Capital region

Manama : Stray dogs have become a dangerous threat to residents in the Capital region, especially to children and the elderly people.

The Al Zubara Avenue, popularly know as the Awal Cinema area in the Capital, has an ever-growing number of stray dogs, making the Awal Square Park their home causing great nuisance and a major safety concern for residents in the neighbourhood.

“The dogs move around predominantly in groups at the Awal square park, the park near Awal Cinema. We don’t have an issue with single canines but a pack of dogs chasing our kids in the neighbourhood is a big worry,” said a resident in the area.

“My child stopped going to the park to play and after a point he even stopped to go to the shops for fear of dogs. We did call local animal shelters that keep canines but no action was taken,” she said, pleading  the authorities to come up with a solution to curb the growing number of canine population.

“We are not against pets or stray animals moving around but there has to be a solution to the menace. The safety of women and children should not be compromised,” said another resident.

“The kids around the neighbourhood play in the area but now they refuse to go outside as they are afraid of the dogs chasing and barking at them. The authorities should take action as the growing number of canines are causing a great deal of nuisance for the residents in the area,” said the resident.
