Startups get a fillip at investors summit
Manama : The sixth MENA Angel Investors Summit 2017, organised by Tenmou in strategic partnership with StartUp Bahrain and Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), was held yesterday at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain.
The summit provided a platform for young entrepreneurs and startups to interact, share their ideas and pitch business opportunity to investors from all over MENA as well as high-net-worth investors and angel investment organisations.
Commenting on the event, Head of the MENA Angel Investor Network (MAIN) and CEO of Tenmou, Hasan Haider, told DT News,”This summit is truly one of a kind as this is the only forum in the country that focuses on pitching and raising funds from the audience which mainly comprises of investors.”
Explaining further, he said that the focus is not just on the startups in Bahrain, “but on startups from all across the MENA including Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and more.”
“Overall this year we have the participation of almost 30 startups around the MENA region,” he said.
The summit, Haider said, supports investors to look at Bahrain as a potential source of deal flow. “If there are investors, we do have a space for them. “
“We see a lot of young entrepreneurs and startups with brilliant ideas, but the only problem is that there isn’t enough funding, venture capital or for that matter angel investors
“We are trying to bridge the gap between angel investors and startups through forums like these,” he added.
Simon Galpin, Managing Director of Bahrain Economic Development Board, told DT News, “It is a delight to support an event like this again for it is a landmark event in the startup calendar of Bahrain.”
“We believe that this is a great way for high net worth individuals to engage and help startups,” he added.
