Jazz fest rocks Bahrain

ManamaBahrain’s first international jazz festival made its debut at the Royal Golf Club yesterday as both international and local artists jammed out on the stage in front of thousands. 

More than 3000 jazz music enthusiasts witnessed the open-air festival, which featured eight international and local jazz artists and musicians. The first of its kind festival was organised by the Royal Golf Club, Clockwork and BMMI. 

The festival featured internationally acclaimed acts such as Electric Swing Circus (UK), The Ska Vengers (India), The Speakeasies Swing Band (Greece), Swing Zazou (UK) and the Dihann Moore & the SheGroovee Band (USA) as well popular local acts AQ’s Jazz Experience, Mohammed Rashid Trio featuring Banah and Captain Tea.

The Bahrain Jazz fest, which has a sustainable community approach, also hosted a series of jazz workshops and local music events at various venues in September leading up to the open-air festival yesterday.

Jude D’Souza, Managing Partner, Clockwork told DT News, “The event was a huge success in all its way, in terms of marketing, partnership moreover in terms of the audience.”

“We had people participating from all across the GCC region, from India, UK, and the USA,” D’Souza said adding: “We are delighted to make it a yearly thing on the national events calendar.”

He also thanked the Economic Development Board for its support. “We are especially proud to have the backing of EDB who shares our vision for making this exciting initiative an annual driver for tourism in the Kingdom and also a contributor to the promotion of local music talents in Bahrain.”
