Gomma top player in singles entry list
Manama : Egypt’s Mohamed Gomma ranked 390th in the world is the top ranked player in the boys singles entry list for the Ninth Bahrain ITF Juniors Championship which takes place from October 23 to 28 at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair.
Qualifiers for the boys singles will take place on the preceding two days of October 21 and 22.
Gomma last year was defeated in the Round of 16, the other top eight ranked players are - Adham Gaber (Egypt, 488), who was a quarter finalist last year, Moritz Stoeger (Germany, 496), defending champion Viktor Jovic (Serbia, 562), last year’s semi-finalist Siddharth Thakran (India, 587), Mana Shah (India, 634), Alexandros Roumpis (Greece, 713) and Srivatsa Ratakonda (India, 790).
Among the qualifyimg are Bahraini players Elyas Abdulnabi, Hamad Abdul A’al, Hassan Al Qattan and Youssef Asraf.
More than 100 players have registered and will also play doubles from October 24 to 27.
The girls category features 54 registered players and will follow the same format as the boys, with last year’s semi-finalist Hala Khaled from Egypt the highest ranked player at 209, followed by Weronika Pociej (Poland, 451), Doga Turkmen (Turkey, 65) and first rounder last year Charlotte Navin-Weinstein (Great Britain, 761).
The fifth to eighth ranked players are last year’s quarter finalist Aaliya Ebrahim (India, 787), Trisha Vinod (India, 796), Amina Lasheen (Egypt, 875) and Marie Lou Faoro (France, 974).
Among the qualifiers are Sophie De Boer representing Bahrain and Aleina Alex from India who is Bahrain-based.
The championship is being held under the patronage of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister.
ITF Supervisor Ahmed Al Hawaj will oversee the championship, while the Tournament Director is Khalid Nass.
