Bahrain revoked camping fees
Manama : The mandatory insurance fees for camping have been revoked by the newly appointed Southern Governorate Governor.
In the first annual camping season to be organised after being appointed, Southern Governorate Governor HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa announced that campers will not have to pay the returnable BD50 insurance amount.
The amounts are usually paid by campers to the Supreme Camping Committee to ensure that the camping area and the environment will be well maintained and no violations are committed during the campers’ stay in the camping area in Sakhir.
The governor’s decision came to “strengthen the trust in campers and reduce the financial burdens on them, in the frame of community partnership”.
Speaking during a recent meeting held to announce the details of the approaching camping season, HH Shaikh Khalifa said: “The governorate believes in citizens’ right of recreation without bearing any expenses”, adding that the governorate is concerned on strengthening the sense of national responsibility among campers and promoting environment and wildlife protection culture among them.
In the meeting, it was also announced that the camping season will begin on November 5 this year and will conclude on March 5 of the next year.
The governor highlighted the importance of the directives of Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to ensure the safety of campers during the four-month long season, in coordination with the related security authorities.
He also explained that some of the areas that were previously open for campers have not been included this year, considering the safety of campers. The governor said some of the banned areas were affected by last year’s rain season, which damaged the camps back then. However, he confirmed that alternative areas were provided this year.
The meeting also underlined the importance of the camping season in reviving the heritage of the people of Bahrain. It was announced that activities and contests will be featured this season to serve this purpose, such as traditional camels and falcons exhibitions.
