Al Iman School Bahrain wins first prize in Arab Reading Challenge
Manama : A Bahraini school won the first prize of one million US dollar in a regional reading contest held in Dubai yesterday.
Al Iman School Bahrain won the first place in the Arab Reading Challenge 2017, held in Dubai under the patronage of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The school was honoured and awarded by HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The school came ahead of 41, 000 schools from 25 Arab states. The school’s victory comes one year after Bahraini student Walaa Al Baqaali won the third place of the same contest.
King congratulates
On the occasion, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa sent a cable of congratulations to Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi and the school.
HM the King expressed his pride in the excellent achievement by Bahrain’s children at the various international functions that confirm their high-achievement which is the source of pride for every Bahraini citizen. HM the King affirmed that this prestigious prize reflects the quality of educational services and the effort exerted in stimulating the efficiencies and the achievement of highest levels of excellence and creativity in the various fields of school performance.
HM cited the importance of continuous work to upgrade the educational work and to encourage excellence and innovativeness, wishing all educators, teachers and employees of Education Ministry.

Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa also congratulated the school.
He affirmed that the exploit re-affirms the advanced level of Bahraini students, and their ability to compete at various international gatherings.
HH Shaikh Mohammed also thanked ministry for its efforts that led to Bahrain’s achieving leading positions in the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA)’s Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), citing the IEA’s film documenting Bahrain’s academic achievements, and showing that the Kingdom has made the highest average achievement increase in mathematics compared to TIMSS 2011, by 45 grades, and making a significant progress in sciences.
He also expressed satisfaction with the kingdom’s being granted the membership of IEA’s General Assembly for its distinguished achievements in TIMSS, Pirls, LaNa and Icls.
HH Shaikh Mohammed also lauded the participation of Bahraini students from technical schools, the Bahrain Training Institute and Bahrain Polytechnic in the skills competition (World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017), held in the UAE, wishing them every success. His statements came during a meeting held with the council members yesterday.
