Clampdown on illegal street vendors in Capital

ManamaThe Capital Governorate has asked the authorities to remove illegal street vendors in the vicinity of central markets in the governorate. 

Anybody violating the law will be held legally accountable,  the Capital General Secretariat (formerly municipality) said in a statement yesterday.

Markets Regulation and Maintenance  Head Mohammed Abdulsalam announced that the municipality has warned 17 vendors in the central markets in Manama and Jidhafs. 

Mohammed Abdulsalam also confirmed that four illegal vending points were removed from Manama central market, recently.

“These procedures follow the instruction of Capital General Secretariat General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa to monitor the markets and oblige vendors to adhere to the laws and not cross the spaces allocated for them,” Abdulsalam said.

Public Relations and Information Department Head Jameel Al Mubarak clarified that the procedures come within a campaign launched by the secretariat to enhance social awareness and the role of the public in reporting violations and wrong behaviours. 

Jameel Al Mubarak added that most of the violations were detected and reported by citizens and residents.
