Bahrain security guard jailed for drug abuse
Manama : A Bahraini security guard has been jailed for drug abuse on duty at the National Stadium in Isa Town.
The man who lost consciousness because of the narcotics, however, claimed that he “unknowingly” consumed the substance.
He was initially sentenced by the criminal court for six months of imprisonment, but the Public Prosecution appealed against the verdict demanding a tougher punishment.
The Court of Appeal accepted the prosecution’s demand and fined the man BD500 in addition to the sentence he was awarded earlier.
The defendant told the prosecutors that he was not a drug addict and that a friend convinced him to consume a yellow substance before going to work.
“I consumed the substance and headed to the National Stadium to perform my duties as a security guard. I was later woken up in a hospital bed at the Accident and Emergency Department in Salmaniya Medical Complex unaware of what happened,” the defendant claimed.
Anyhow, the Anti-narcotics Police examination of the man’s blood and urine samples showed that he consumed morphine and heroin.
