Brave combat week begins
Manama : Hundreds of MMA fighters will be going head to head this week as the 2017 Brave International Combat Week gets underway today.
The Mixed Martial Arts competition will get underway today evening at Khalifa Sports City. The Brave International Combat Week comprises of two competitions, Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions and IMMAF World Championship for Amateur MMA. The combat week will see participation of over 50 countries and will extend until 19th. It will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In a press conference held yesterday at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kerrith Brown, the President of IMMAF said, “This promises to be an exciting competition over next couple of days. I would like to express my thanks to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for their support.” he said.
Densign White, CEO IMMAF, said that the competition will see a comparatively larger female participation. “We are glad about the increased number of women that will be participating in this event. This is one area we are trying to encourage and grow.”
He said that IMMAF will hold talks with an another international MMA federation about a merger while in Bahrain. “This will be a historic week for IMMAF, big changes are happening. We are in discussions with another representative federation about a merger. If this happens, we will double in size almost immediately.” he said.
Mohammad Shahid, CEO, KHK MMA said that “This is a historic event for Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions and for Bahrain. As a Bahraini, i am very proud to be part of such a great event. The whole week is going to be filled with excitement, entertainment and performances.”
