School Mini Olympics: AMA, Al Maarefa bag titles
AMA and Al Maarefa Schools lifted the football championships’ trophies yesterday as the 2015 School Mini Olympics came to a close at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
In the deciding matches the boys title went AMA International School who topped the boys section at the end of this single round-robin tournament staged at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa with Al Naseem taking silver and Indian School the bronze medal.
In the girls tournament at the Khalifa Sports City’s stadium, Al Maarefa International School won the gold medal. AMA took silver and Al Noor International School the bronze.
In the basketball competition, Othman Bin Affan, the British School and AMA all captured titles in their respective age categories on the concluding day of action.
The intermediate boys tournament gold went to Othman bin Affan School, with silver for AMA and bronze to the British School.
British School claimed the intermediate girls trophy following its 46-24 win over Zainab International School who had to settle for silver with bronze going to Sacred Heart.
In the Secondary stage, AMA clinched the boys event gold medal, Al Hekma the silver and Al Noor International School bronze.
Al Noor International School emerged champions of the girls tournament for the gold medal, beating the Indian School 39-18 and Al Hekma eased to a 21-2 win over AMA for the silver with Indian School taking the bronze.
The curtains came down on the 2015 Mini Olympics yesterday with the awarding ceremonies in football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, table tennis and athletics at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
A closing ceremony was held under the patronage of His Majesty the King’s representative for charity work and youth affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser delegated Bahrain Olympic Committee board member Dr Khalid Al Alawi to honor the top three teams and individuals in all sports.
