Iran behind deadly bomb attack in Bahrain

Manama : A militant cell trained by Iranian Revolutionary Guards carried out the bomb attack on a police bus that killed an officer and wounded nine others in Jidhafs last month, a top Interior Ministry official said.

The suspects also had plans to blow up three oil pipelines and assassinate public figures in the Kingdom.

The plot was revealed after the authorities identified and arrested one of the suspects involved in the bombing of the police bus. His accomplice escaped to Iran through Syria after carrying out the attack.

Chief of Public Security, Major General, Tariq Al Hassan, announced this during a press conference held here yesterday.

Al Hassan said that both the suspects “received extensive military training on the use of explosives and firearms in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard camps, in addition to receiving direct logistic and financial support through the escaped terrorists in Iran”.

The attack on October 27 resulted in the martyrdom of policeman Salman Anjam and the injured nine others

The suspects, Al Hassan said, travelled to and from Iran through Syria without getting their passports stamped. “They travelled to Syria by land in October 2011 and again in July 2017.”

The cell includes four other wanted fugitives linked to terrorist activities in the Kingdom.
