Upgraded BIA will be four times bigger, says BAC CEO
Manama : Bahrain International Airport (BIA) will be four times bigger than its current size, capable of accommodating 14 million passengers each year, once the Airport Modernisation Programme is completed, said a top official.
Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, said this while giving an overview of the US$1.1 billion modernisation and expansion project currently underway at BIA at the Global Airport Development (GAD) World Conference held in France.
Binfalah was a speaker at the conference, which is also the largest annual gathering of global airport CEOs. He participated in a discussion on the progress of national development projects and privatisation plans.
Highlighting the project as a “milestone in the Kingdom’s history, Binfalah told the conference participants that he welcomes further interaction from colleagues as the project progresses.
“Airport infrastructure projects such as the AMP are vast, complicated, and expensive, requiring continuous collaborations between many different stakeholders,” Binfalah said.
Over 500 members of the global airport development community, hailing from over 50 countries, attended the event, including airport operators, investors, airlines, regulators, policymakers, and financiers.
BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport’s contribution to the local economy in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. In its operational role, BAC is responsible for elevating the airport’s operations, infrastructure and services. This is set to improve BIA’s capabilities and cater to the growing number of passengers as well as the changing demands of stakeholders.
