DANAT’s services in Jewellery Arabia

ManamaDuring the upcoming Jewellery Arabia tradeshow to be held under the patronage of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, visitors will be treated to a wide array of services the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) offers its clients and the public alike. 

Located in the Al Fanar hall for the duration of the show, in addition to complimentary consultation services, the DANAT exhibition will comprise of a jewellery and precious stone display, VIP lounge and history corner, as well as educational seminars conducted by its team of expert gemmologists. 

Visitor consultations will provide consumers with a brief analysis of gemstones, pearls, and jewellery pieces. 

Commencing on November 21, the five-day, massive jewellery affair is expected to attract traders, jewellers and enthusiasts from across the globe. DANAT’s participation will enable it to play a vital role in enhancing the public’s trust in jewellery in all its forms while further building its reputation as the preferred institute for third party natural pearl and gemstone verification services.

Commenting on the Institute’s participation, DANAT’s Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Scarratt said, “Serving jewellery experts and customers through our verification and authentication consultations, we’re excited to be showcasing a select collection of stunning jewels to be seen for the first time in Bahrain. These include a private collection of 15th Century Venezuelan pearls, Nacreous and Non-Nacreous natural pearls, Ethiopian emeralds, natural Bahraini pearl necklaces, a unique renaissance era necklace, a unique spinel and diamond ring designed by the late award winning designer James Currens and a superb melo pearl, diamond and Montana sapphire brooch both from a private collection.” 

As part of its consultation services, the latest technologies will be used to distinguish, lead glass-filled rubies from authentic stones, and synthetic, lab grown diamonds from natural ones. Additionally, DANAT will accept items for formal testing and certification. These items will be transported to its state-of-the art laboratory each evening, using Secure Services.

On each day of the five-day event, five seminars will be offered by DANAT’s team of experienced gemmologists including the Research Director, Stefanos Karampelas who has published roughly 40 papers on gemmology in renowned scientific journals; Executive Director, Abeer Al Alawi, who has accumulated over 25 years’ experience in the gemstone testing industry, in addition to other specialists including Vincent Pardieu from VP Consulting and Peter Balogh from the Prehistoric Foundation. 

Lectures will focus on a wide range of topics including DANAT’s pearl testing methods, Venezuelan pearls dating to the era of Christopher Columbus, new sapphire discoveries in Madagascar, and rubies from the new amphibole deposits.
