Kenyan nationals duped set free, reach home

ManamaThe nine Kenyan nationals who were duped by an unscrupulous Asian agent are finally back in their home country after they were set free by the authorities here.

The Kenyan men were brought to Bahrain months ago on e-visas on the pretext that they could obtain employment upon their arrival. The men were confined in the Kingdom and faced heavy penalty after being duped by the Asian national.

“The Kenyan men are finally free and have been sent back to their home county. Further, the heavy penalties the men bore were paid off by some Good Samaritans and a few churches,” said Marietta Dias, Chairperson of Migrant Workers Protection Society.

The men were brought into the Kingdom by the agent on e-visas on the idea that they could obtain employment visas on arrival. In fact, e-visas are strictly for visiting only and cannot be changed to work visas. These men were trafficked and tricked into paying large sums in Kenya. The men suffered enormous hardships along the way and with no financial means to get themselves back to Kenya.
