Plea to give parity to degrees obtained from China rejected
Manama : The House of Representatives yesterday rejected an “urgent” proposal to equalise the certificates of Bahraini graduates from Chinese universities who were allegedly sent by the government on scholarships.
MP Jalal Kadhim, one of the MPs who made the proposal, said “several complaints were received from the graduates who remained jobless for two years”.
“They spent eight years of their lives and they cannot be employed because their certificates wouldn’t be equalised here. They studied for six years in Chinese universities and spent two years here without benefiting from their certificates,” Kadhim said
The MP questioned “why would the government send them on scholarships and later refuse to accept their certificates”.
MP Adel Al Assoomy was one of the supporters of the proposal and said, “Some graduates obtained certificates from reputed international universities that are ahead of us here by hundreds of light-years, but Education Ministry wouldn’t recognise these certificates. Education has developed worldwide and we should cope with it. This matter should be reconsidered.”
MP Mohsen Al Bakri criticised that the proposal was “urgently” submitted, while it could be referred as an ordinary proposal to the concerned committee in the council.
“If this was proved right, then we should form an investigative committee to look into this behaviour of the Education Ministry,” Al Bakri added.
However, majority of MPs voted against the proposal and it was not passed onto the government.
