Municipalities’ revenue up by BD30m: Minister

Manama : The total revenues of the municipalities rose by around BD30 million this year, according to latest data revealed by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf.

In his reply to the parliamentary queries raised by MP Abdulhameed Al Najjar with respect to the debts collection procedures of the municipalities of four governorates, the minister said that the revenues of the municipalities are expected to reach BD90 million, in comparison with BD62 million collected last year.

The minister’s reply, which will be reviewed before the House of Representatives in their next weekly session on Tuesday, mentioned that BD67, 120, 000 was the income of the municipalities until September 30 this year, while BD64, 668, 750 was the revenues of 2016.

Khalaf attributed the increase to the urban growth the Kingdom is witnessing in recent years.

Commenting on the arrears owed to the ministry, Khalaf affirmed that the municipalities reduced the arrears to BD29. 461, 068 in 2017, from BD39, 549, 908 in 2016.

He also mentioned that the ministry is cooperating with several authorities, including the Electricity and Water Affairs Authority, in completing these procedures.

More discussion will be held in the presence of the minister at the Parliament session on Tuesday.
