Crackdown on illegal vendors continues
Manama : The crackdown on illegal street vendors in the alleys and roads of residential areas in the Capital Governorate continues, with authorities combatting this “phenomenon” by confiscating the goods illegally sold by the vendors.
Capital General Secretariat (municipality previously) conducted several campaigns in different areas in the Capital where illegal vendors are active in the past few days.
Vendors faced the heat at Shaikh Hamad and Sasa’h bin Sohan avenues in the heart of the old capital. The secretariat confiscated around 70 trolleys used by the vendors to sell foodstuff and other products on the road, in addition to 54 scales used to weigh vegetables and fruits, and several gas cylinder used to cook illegally and against the safety standards set by Health Ministry and Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry.
“The confiscated equipment and goods were moved to the stores of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry in Tubli,” the secretariat confirmed in a statement. The campaigns were organised in coordination with Interior Ministry, Health Ministry and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, as a big percentage of the vendors were illegal residents in the Kingdom.
Similar campaigns are being conducted in the other governorates of the Kingdom, especially that complaints have increased regarding the dangers of illegal vendors selling spoilt products on the roads without any official supervision or accountability.
