‘Women successful even in toughest areas’

Marjan Modara, a pioneer and prominent engineer who was privileged for being among the top twenty graduates during her year of graduation.

She said it is a source of pride to see Bahraini women excel in all fields and are equal partners with their male colleagues in the engineering, medical, industrial, cultural, education and legislative bodies that work together to build this nation.

Marjan expressed thanks to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa for honouring Bahraini engineers and believing in the role they have played in building Bahrain.

She added that despite the challenges women face in the field of engineering they managed to prove successful through their integration into even the toughest areas.

“In my year I was awarded a scholarship from the Government to study Architectural Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. It was very nice that even at our times in the 1970s, females were alongside their male peers in getting scholarship based on their performance and the government, in awarding scholarships, made no segregation by gender.

“After graduation, I worked in an insurance company, the Ministry of Housing and Municipalities (at the time), and finally in an investment bank. All along my career, I was employed based on my engineering degree and excelled in all the positions that I held.
