Suspect to stand trial for attacking Bahrain police officers
Manama : The investigation into the case of a suspect running over a public security officer in Duraz was completed, said Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution, Advocate General Chancellor Ahmed Al Hammadi.
The suspect, who was remanded in custody pending trial, was charged with attempted murder and assaulting an on-duty public officer for terrorist purposes.
The suspect will stand trial at the High Criminal Court on December 25, said the Advocate General.
Court documents show the incident occurred on May 23, 2017, when a public security patrol was stationed on the Budaiya Avenue, near Duraz.
The suspect, reportedly, hit the policeman with the bus he was driving after spotting him getting down from a police vehicle to perform prayers.
Investigators found that the suspected speeded up his vehicle with the intention of killing the victim and in the process caused severe injuries to the victim.
The suspect also stabbed another policeman with a knife while trying to flee. He was later arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution.
Charges were levelled against him based on eyewitness accounts, suspect’s confession, technical and forensic reports as well as findings made by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science.
