Teddy helps kids beat hospital fear
Manama : The “AGU Teddy Bear Hospital” campaign turned out to be a soothing experience for about 550 children who found hospitals and doctors as extremely welcoming and entertaining.
The campaign by Arabian Gulf University showed the tiny patients what they may face during their stay in the hospital.
Organised by the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences on Friday and Saturday, the campaign was held at Enma Mall in Riffa from 1 -2 December.
The role-play event helped children break their fear of doctors, hospitals, medicine and vaccination by creating a fun environment in which they play the role of the doctor, while the teddy bear is the patient.
The campaign was able to poll 432 children about their impression and their relationship with hospitals after their participation. 83 per cent of them expressed happiness to deal with doctors and hospitals.
The children stopped by various hospital departments such as first aid, primary care, surgery, vaccination and medication, and radiation. A team of academics, paediatricians, and medical students of paediatrics guided the children on how to conduct the required tests on their teddy bears in an educational-entertainment style.
The campaign also aimed to enhance the skills of students of the College of Medicine at AGU in dealing with society and utilising their energies in its service.
The awareness campaign received children between 4-12 years of age, free of charge. The organising team provided every participant with an explanation of the function of each of the hospital’s divisions, in an atmosphere of fun and familiarity.
Every children received delightful gifts at the end of their participation.
