Bahrain supporting Iraq’s unity

Manama : Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa yesterday affirmed Bahrain’s full support to Iraq in its fight against terrorism. 

“Bahrain supports the unity and sovereignty of Iraq over all its territory and all efforts to eliminate the terrorist organizations that threaten the security and stability of the world,” said Shaikh Khalid during his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Ibrahim Al Jaafari, on the sidelines of the 13th session of Manama Dialogue. 

The Minister told Dr Al Jaafari that a joint committee between the two countries, which will hold a meeting soon, will have an important role in achieving these goals. 

Shaikh Khalid also praised the efforts of the Iraqi government, headed by Dr Haider Al Abadi, in the fight against terrorism. 

Separately, the Foreign Minister held discussions with Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of Kurdistan Regional Government, Falah Mustafa Bakir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Taro Kono, and the Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India, M. J. Akbar. 

Expressing his pride in Kurdistan’s key role in the prosperity of Iraq, the Minister highlighted the need to maintain the unity of Iraq among all its people. For his part, Mustafa appreciated the role Bahrain plays in enhancing the security and stability of the region. 

Ties with Japan

The importance of continuous communication and exchange of visits in enhancing bilateral ties were highlighted during the meeting between Shaikh Khalid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Taro Kono. The ministers also discussed issues of mutual interest in the regional and international arenas as well as means of developing joint cooperation. 

With India’s minister 

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs M. J. Akbar who is on a three-day visit to Bahrain also held a discussion with Shaikh Khalid on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. Shaikh Khalid praised the continuous progress made by Bahrain and India as well as the role played by the Indian community in the Kingdom prosperity in all sectors.
