University warned over non-compliance

ManamaThe Higher Education Council (HEC) has warned a private university for not providing the necessary requirements to ratify the degrees of students.

HEC General Secretary Dr Abdulghani Al Showaikh said in a press statement that the secretariat has warned the Arab Open University Bahrain branch and accused the university of not cooperating with the demands of the secretariat.

This is the third time the Higher Education Council is warning the university.

“The Secretariat had sent a new notification to the university regarding its failure to comply with the requirements for the accreditation of the MBA students hosted by the Malaysian Open University, in which they are provided with documents proving that the students passed the programmes for obtaining the qualification.” Dr Al Showaikh said.

“However, the university is still delaying the procedure, explaining its delay in not keeping these documents for more than three years, while the reality of the case indicates that these students are new graduates and that it is the duty of the university to keep records and documents that guarantee the rights of the students to obtain the qualification and even after graduation and for any period of time as is the case in all institutions of higher education,” Dr. Al Showaikh explained.

He added, “The secretariat had decided not to ratify those qualifications until the required documents had been provided, to submit the subject to the HEC, to hold the university responsible for the students’ legal and moral responsibility. The HEC follows deterrent procedures in regards to such violations.”
