Lack of quorum ends Parliament session early

ManamaThe Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla yesterday ended the regular weekly session of the House early due to lack of quorum.

This happened for the second week in a row and while the MPs were discussing the replies of the Government to their queries and proposals.

By noontime, Al Mulla suspended the session for half an hour for Dhuhr (midday) prayers.

But when the MPs were supposed to return to their seats, their number was less than 21, which is the required quorum to hold any session in the 40-member Parliament.

Only 14 MPs returned to the hall following the prayers, pushing Al Mulla to end the session early before completing the scheduled topics to be discussed.
