KHK athlete wins bronze in Sambo

ManamaMohammed Abbas Khan from the KHK MMA Fight Team has secured Bronze at the Combat Sambo World Championship 2017 held at Dushanbe, Tajikistan. 

He was trained and accompanied by the veteran coach and KHK MMA Fighter Eldar Eldarov. 

Abbas Khan is a member of the KHK MMA fight team found under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The word Sambo is an acronym meaning “self-defense without a weapon” in Russian. 

Sambo has roots in Japanese Judo and traditional folk styles of wrestling of the peoples of the former Soviet Union. Combat Sambo, which is utilized and developed for the military, includes practice with weapons, including disarming techniques. 

Competition in combat sambo resembles older forms of judo, and modern mixed martial arts, including extensive forms of striking and grappling.
