Grooming Champions

Manama : The Bahrain Olympic Committee joined other high-ranking authorities in Bahrain to celebrate the Kingdom’s National Day by organizing the first-ever National Day Women’s Sports Festival on Friday.

The day-long festivities included a variety of sports and entertaining activities for citizens and expats alike, while it aimed to celebrate the nation’s 46th National Day and the 18th anniversary of His Majesty the king’s accession day.

Three venues at Isa Town Sports City – Bahrain Volleyball Association gym, Bahrain Table Tennis Association gym and Bahrain Sports for People with Disabilities Federation gym hosted action-packed programmes from early hours of the day.

Competitions included football, basketball, athletics, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, poomse, 3-on-3 basketball, and handball.

Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs ‘A’ team were crowned champions in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with the ministry’s ‘B’ team coming second and Interior Ministry were third.

The three teams were rewarded after the final by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member, BOC board member and women’s sports committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.

In table tennis, A’ali came on top, followed by runners-up the Interior Ministry team. Bahrain’s national team were too strong in the handball championship, which they won after beating Ministry of Youth and Spots team, who finished second. The University of Bahrain rounded off the podium.

The Blue Pearl topped the futsall championship, finishing ahead of the Black Pearl and Muharraq Tekkers, who settled for second and third positions, respectively.

The volleyball title went to the Bahrain national team, who topped the competition with 10 points. The Filipino Community ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams were respective second and third. 

Bahrain Volleyball Association president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, along with Shaikha Hayat, presented the trophy and other medals to the winners.

Bahrain Martial Arts Federation president Ahmed Al Khayyat presented medals to the winners of the taekwondo, karate and poomse competitions.
