Bill to create special unified military court for policemen on way
Manama : Parliamentarians will discuss a bill seeking to establish unified military courts for policemen in the Kingdom this week.
The courts, according to the bill approved recently by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee in the House of Representatives, will remain independent and hear cases related to Public Security members only.
Tabled by MP Khalid Al Shaer, who’s also a member of the National Institution for Human Rights, the bill requires amending articles 82-89 of the Public Security Forces Law issued by Decree-by-Law 3 for the year 1983.
The committee passed the bill after receiving approvals from the Legislative and Legal Committee in the Council and Interior Ministry.
According to MP Al Shaer, the bill would “unify military judiciary systems and guarantees the independence of military courts.”
The bill will be discussed during the Council’s upcoming regular weekly session on Tuesday.
