December in Bahrain was warmer than normal
Manama : December in Bahrain was warmer than normal with 28.9°C being the highest temperature and 11.7°C the lowest temperature recorded.
Light rain was reported from some parts of Bahrain during the month with fog hitting the Kingdom on 29th, 30th and 31st of December reducing the visibility to less than 1000 meters. Visibility was reduced to 20 meters on 31 December at Bahrain International Airport, which was also the lowest reported during the month.
The highest temperature occurred on 25 December 2017 at Bahrain International Airport, while the lowest was recorded on 23 December at Durrat Al Bahrain, said the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication’s Meteorological Directorate in their monthly weather summary.
The mean temperature of the month was 19.6°C which is 0.4°C above the long-term normal. The mean maximum temperature of the month was 22.9°C which is 0.6°C above the long-term normal.
The mean minimum temperature of the month was 16.6°C which is 0.4°C above the long-term normal. The lowest temperature recorded was 13.5°C set on the 28th of December at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 11.7°C on the 23rd of December at Durrat Al Bahrain.
The mean relative humidity for December was 65% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 81% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 48%.
Light rain was reported in some places on the 2nd of December where the long-term mean total precipitation for the month of December is 10.9 mm - the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during December was 119.6 mm which occurred in December 2006.
December 2017 was the second sunniest December since the sunshine records began in 1968 whereby the monthly total hour of sunshine recorded was 283.6 hours which was exceeded only by December 2014 with a record of 287.9 hours.
Westerly to Northwesterly winds accounted 73% with gusts reaching 34 knots on the 8th of December at Bahrain International Airport.
