‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ observed

ManamaThe Indian community celebrated ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas’ yesterday.

The day, which is formally observed by India to recognize the contribution of the overseas Indian community, was attended by members of the Indian community. Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha and the embassy staff welcomed the community members at the embassy premises in Seef.

“It has been our endeavour to connect with you all, appreciate the contributions you have made to the growth story of India and promoting brand-India abroad. It all started when Mahatma Gandhi returned from South Africa, led India’s freedom struggle and changed the lives of all Indians forever. Engagement with the overseas Indian community has been a key area of priority for the government,” the Ambassador said in his speech.

“Stay connected with the mission, stay connected with the developments taking place in India. With your experience and achievements abroad you are best placed to continue this development process and creating a win-win solution for all,” he urged the audience.

Explaining the purpose behind the event, Anand Prakash, the Second Secretary of Indian Embassy, said, “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year to strengthen the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the government, reconnect them with their roots and celebrate their contributions and achievements towards the growth story of
India.” 

The event also featured cultural programmes and entertainment.
