Campaign against illegal street vendors in Aali
Manama : The Northern Area Municipality conducted a campaign against illegal street vendors in Aali village, recently.
The campaign was conducted at one of the areas in the Northern Governorate, a few metres away from the historic pottery factory in Aali, where illegal activities were rampant.
The municipality announced that the drive came in cooperation with the area’s representative in the Northern Area Municipal Council Abdulla Ashoor, Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), security authorities and Urbaser Cleaning Company.
“The campaign was aimed at combating the increasing illegal activities of street vendors in the area, as they sell illegal and unhealthy products, that is in addition to the rising number of complaints received by citizens and residents of the area against the vendor’s immoral behaviours,” the municipality said in a statement issued yesterday.
The municipality also said that Ashoor and a number of citizens and residents of the area have documented the illegal practices of the vendors and provided the municipality with copies of the recorded violations.
Illegal sale of garments, foodstuff, meat, fish, banned tobacco products and illegal taxi services were rampant in the area.
Ashoor added that the majority of the vendors are staying in the country illegally.
