Bahraini athlete wins 3000 m race

Manama : Bahraini sprinter, Mohammed Ayoub Tiouali has clinched the first place of the 3000 m race of the Czech Indoor Gala, currently held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The Bahraini champion clocked 07:44.58, ahead of second-placed Kenya’s Benjamin Kigen with 07:44.77, and third-placed Ethiopian athlete Tilahun Haile with 07:45.34.

The Bahraini athlete broke the tournament’s record of 08:00.8, and achieved the best timing so far this year.
He also qualified for the IAAF World Indoor Championships 2018, due to be held in Birmingham, UK, on March 1-4.

On the occasion, Vice-President of the Bahrain Athletics Association and National Teams’ Director, Mohammed Abdullatif bin Jalal, lauded the outstanding result achieved by Mohammed Ayoub Tiouali, expressing optinism in the participation of the Bahraini athletics national teams in the coming regional and international competitions.

He expressed hope that bin Mohammed Ayoub will be able to attain good results in order to reflect the prestigious position enjoyed by Bahrain’s athletics thanks to the constant support of the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, President of the West Asian Athletics Association and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
