Bahrain’s Green buildings a big boost to energy conservation

Manama : Bahrain’s green buildings initiative, activated by the Works Ministry in 2010, contributed effectively to support the Kingdom’s water and energy conservation drive, said a top Works Ministry official.

Speaking during a workshop organised to discuss the Kingdom’s Green Buildings concept,  Works Affairs Undersecretary Ahmed Al Khayyat said that the Kingdom’s Green buildings strategy has helped reduce water and energy consumption as well as operating and maintenance expenses, “which traditional buildings do not provide”.

“Green buildings have reduced water and energy consumption by 30 percent, reduced operation and maintenance expenses by 15pc, reduced carbonic emissions by 35pc and 50-75pc of construction waste,” he said citing approved statistics. The workshop shop titled ‘The Guidance Manual for Green Buildings Evaluation in the Kingdom of Bahrain’ was held under the patronage of Essam Khalaf, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
