Cabinet clears National Ambulance Centre plan

ManamaThe Cabinet chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday approved the National Ambulance Centre, a unified ambulance services project, in the Kingdom.

The project, aimed at increasing the efficiency of the ambulance services, will function under the supervision of Interior Ministry.

“The Cabinet endorsed the draft edict on establishing the National Ambulance Centre, as well as its objectives, tasks, terms of reference, organisational structure and funding,” said Cabinet Secretary General Dr. Yasser Al Nasser in a statement.

As reported earlier in DT News, the National Ambulance Centre will be a new project that introduces unified ambulance service covering all of the four governorates.

The project will be managed by the Interior Ministry and will receive all emergency calls in Bahrain.

Aiming at reducing the current pressure on Salmaniya Medical Complex and other hospitals, the concerned authorities began preparing for it a couple of years ago, with the help of foreign medical professionals in the training and operation processes.

This includes work mechanisms, medical staff training and preparing the necessary facilities such as ambulance stations and manpower.

It was earlier announced that 14 stations were allocated in all governorates of the Kingdom and that they will all be controlled by a fully-equipped main operation room at the ministry to control and coordinate the operations.

Other reports claimed that the transition process has actually begun by the fourth quarter of 2017 and that work is going on to train the paramedics at all hospitals to adapt with the new workflow.
