Bahraini man injured in group attack passes away

ManamaA Bahraini man who remained in a coma for nine months after being attacked by a group of men in Manama last year succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Abdulredha Ghuloom, 41, was laid to rest in Hoora Graveyard on Sunday after he was pronounced dead at the hospital where he remained for almost nine months with serious injuries.

Ghuloom and his brother were reportedly attacked by a group of 20 Asian men in one of the alleys of the old capital on March 22, 2017.

As a result of the brutal attack, he sustained serious injuries and fractures in the head and total permanent disability.

Since then, the man remained at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) and was later moved to Ibrahim Khalil Kanoo Health and Social Centre for Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, and again admitted at SMC where he was declared dead on Sunday.

The deceased’s daughter told DT News yesterday that three of the defendants, Bangladeshi nationals, were sentenced on January 6 this year to one-year imprisonment and deportation.

She confirmed that they, the deceased’s family, have hired an attorney and are planning to file an appeal against the verdict, as the attack led to Ghuloom’s demise.

“My father underwent a surgery that required opening his skull. He suffered for nine months,” the daughter said while affirming that the case is a murder and not an assault. Ghuloom is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
