Heroes of handball team returns

Manama : Bahrain’s national handball team were given a heroes’ welcome on their return from South Korea yesterday after coming second at the 18th Asian Men’s Championship, and qualifying for the 2019 World Championship in Germany and Denmark.

The nationals put on a brave show before going down to highly-favoured Qatar 31-33 in their final match which was played in the South Korean city of Suwon on Sunday.

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar welcomed members of the team on return and congratulated them on this achievement.

Askar commended the overall performance of the team during the competition, especially in the title clash, and also securing their place in next year’s World Championship for the fourth consecutive time.

The BOC general secretary also asserted the efforts of the Bahrain Handball Association and its president Ali Isa Esaaqi, which played a major part in the team’s success in this continental championship.
