Opening ceremony plan discussed
Manama : The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), organizers of the first Baby Games, continued its series of meetings yesterday as a build up to this first-of- its-kind event in the region.
The First Bahrain Baby Games is scheduled to run from April 1 to 5 and is open to kids aged from 2 to 4 years, with events to take place at Isa Sports Complex in Riffa.
In their meeting with representatives of the Education Ministry and Ministry of Labour and Social Development, BOC projects director Lounes Madene discussed the plan for the opening ceremony and decided to include a number of shows as part of the programme.
The attendees also looked into the initial registration forms to submitted by different kindergartens and the by March 1, while the final forms are to be collected by March 20.
This event will feature five different sports – athletics, gymnastics, football, basketball and weightlifting, and aims to create an awareness among youngsters to practice sports exercises, and promote the Olympic principles and values at a young age.
The athletics programme includes a medley relay (4 years), hurdles race (3 years) and 15m freestyle race (2 years), while other parts of the programme include freestyle moves contests for gymnastics, a football free-kick, free throws basketball competition, and a weightlifting show.
