Iranian interference: FM calls for joint Arab action

Manama/Rabat Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa yesterday called for joint Arab action to address “Iran’s unacceptable interference”, terrorism and extremism in all forms. 

Shaikh Khalid, who is in Morocco to take part in the 4th Session of the Joint Bahraini-Moroccan Committee, also warned that “Sustainable development in the Arab nation is facing big challenges and hardships”. 

“This necessitates further cooperation and coordination among the Arab States to achieve security, stability and progress for the people,” Shaikh Khalid stressed. 

During a discussion, Shaikh Khalid told Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita that the session is an opportunity to exchange views on various regional and international issues including “Palestinian cause, recent developments in Jerusalem, Syria, Yemen and Libya and Iran’s unacceptable interference”.

The Minister hailed the pivotal role played by Morocco in preserving regional and international peace and stability and affirmed Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. He said: “The sole way to seek a solution to this made-up regional dispute can only be achieved within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco”.

Shaikh Khalid praised Rabat’s back-up for Bahrain at all circumstances and its support for national security and stability and all the measures the government of Bahrain takes in this respect, affirming that such supportive stances are not strange to Morocco.

The Minister extended his sincere congratulations to King Mohammed VI on the success of a recent surgery, asserting the warm and strong relations linking the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Morocco.

In this context, the minister also paid tribute to HM King Mohammed VI, the Chairman of Al Quds Committee for defending the Holy City and preserving its status as a city of peace, tolerance and co-existence between the followers of all heavenly religions.

Morocco backs Bahrain

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in his turn, affirmed his country’s support for all the measures the Kingdom of Bahrain may take to preserve its security and stability and to confront terrorism and foreign interventions.

Deals signed 

The two sides signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding and cooperation in various domains covering social insurance, youth and sports, news agencies, work and employment and air transportation in addition to a MOU between the Moroccan Academy for Diplomatic Studies and the Bahraini Institute of Diplomacy as well as another in the information and communication field.

Earlier, upon his arrival,  Shaikh Khalid was welcomed by the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
