ManamaRoads Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Huda Fakhro revealed that the Ministry has achieved 36 per cent progress in Phase 2 of the Jasra Interchange Revamp Project.

The BD1,637,400,000 project is funded by the Kuwaiti Development Fund.

Fakhro explained that the project which aims to improve the main highways in the Kingdom is also part of a pack of development projects that aim to revamp entrances to North Town.

Jasra Interchange revamps project will alleviate traffic congestion and provide free non-stop traffic flow from Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway on the East to the top of the flyover. The traffic signals along the current interchange will also be removed, thus creating a free traffic flow from Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway to Wali Al Ahad Highway.

According to Fakhro, coordination is presently taking place with the Electricity & Water Authority to protect the 400K/W ground cables, where 50% of the work has completed, in addition to the civil works and preparing to install the side concrete barriers, prior to laying of the asphalt.

Fakhro explained that 90,000 vehicles travel along the interchange on a daily basis. Following the revamp of the interchange, the interchange will be able to accommodate 120,000 vehicles/daily; with 10,000 vehicles during peak hours once phase 2 of the project is completed. Waiting time will, therefore, decrease by 45% following completion of the project.
