RCSIB discusses research opportunities
Manama : The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) recently hosted a delegation from neighbouring King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) and Erciyes University and Acibadem University in Turkey, to discuss future collaborative research at the National Oncology Centre.
The delegation, led by KHUH Chief Executive Officer, Major General Dr Shaikh Salman bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, was greeted by RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom and senior officials.
KHUH Chief of Staff and RCSI Bahrain Professor of Surgery, Professor Martin Corbally opened the meeting by outlining the supportive measures the university can provide in the area of oncological research with KHUH.
The delegates were then treated to presentations by Head of School of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Davinder Sandhu; Senior Lecturer in Human Biology and Research Laboratory Manager, Dr Michael Keogh; Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Professor Steve Safrany and Associate Professor in Nursing and Director of the Masters in Nursing programme, Professor Maura Pidgeon.
Through these presentations, the meeting focused on RCSI Bahrain’s ongoing research strategy and activities; pre-clinical research; the area of Sigma 1 receptors and the development of nursing-based research in the context of the National Oncology Centre.
