St Chris shine at Rotax Mojo Max
Manama : Bahrain International Karting Circuit hosted the fourth round of the Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max championship. After a competitive and challenging 15 laps, Year 12 St Christopher’s student, Hussain Hassan took home the first-place trophy.
The championship is made up of 5 races in total that are spread out over the course of 7 months. It is one of the fastest and most challenging competitions in the region with a grid that is made up of drivers from all over the GCC. Karting is an upcoming sport in the region as it is globally recognised as a portal into the world of professional motorsport and chances of securing a seat on an F1 team.
Hussain has been Karting for 5 years and has participated many races across Europe and the Middle East. Hussain was introduced into the world of racing through his father’s passion for F1 and his uncle’s love of Drag racing. So, it was only a matter of time until he followed in their footsteps. We asked Hussain about the race last weekend and what he thought his chances were of taking the tournament trophy home:
“The race was tough, during the first two laps I followed the team strategy and pushed for the lead. Once I got there it was a matter of maintaining my pace. The other competitors had me under constant pressure and there were times where they got a little too close for comfort, but halfway through the race I found the best racing line, stuck to it, and took first place with a comfortable 4.4-second gap between myself and second place.”
As for the championship, there is only one round left and Hussain is 18 points behind the first place. He still has a strong chance of taking home the trophy, taking first place in the pre-final and final will earn him 35 points which are enough for him to be the 2018 champion provided his rivals don’t make it past third place.
It’s going to be a close and exciting close to the championship, the final race is going to be held at the Bahrain karting circuit on April 6. We wish Hussain all the best in the final round and hope that he brings home the championship trophy.
