Ibn Khuldoon rule karting action

Manama : Ibn Khuldoon National School stole the limelight in the karting championship, part of the ongoing Fifth School Mini Olympics.

On the concluding day of the karting competition at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Ibn Khuldoon took firm control on the finals and captured four medals in total (2 gold, 2 silver).

Kareem Hani gave Ibn Khuldoon its first medal of the day after coming on top in the secondary boys championship with the fastest lap time of one minute and 15.072 seconds. Salman Sharaf, also of Ibn Khuldoon (1:14.845) was second and AMA’s Abdulla Al Kooheji (1:16.063) was third.

In the girls section, Ibn Khuldoon’s Yasmine Al Madani (1:17.117) raced to victory, ahead of school mate Qamar Al Madani (1:18.899) and AMA’s Noor Kamal (2.056.1), who received the silver and bronze, respectively.

The intermediate stage saw Isa Ebrahim of Al Raja School top the boys race in 1:321.595. Behind him were Khalifa Al Hussain (1.20.999) and Hashim bint Radi (1.21.013) of the same School.

Al Raja was also dominant in the girls race as Sharifa Al Namliti clinched the competition’s gold with the fastest lap time of 1.25.543. Layla Al Noor (1.30.906) and Nafeesa Jahromi (1.35.622) also took podium.

Elsewhere, the British School emerged winners of the football tournament for the intermediate girls stage, beating Modern Knowledge School 3-0 at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa. New Millennium took the bronze with a 1-0 win over Indian School.

In tennis, Al Shehabi brothers Mohammed and Yousef of Riffa Views International School took one gold medal each at Polytechnic University in Isa Town. Mohammed captured the intermediate boys title after a win over Mohammed Kamran of the Indian School.

His younger brother Yousef, on the other hand, was crowned primary boys champions, beating Alstone D’Souza of the Indian School in the final match.

In the primary girls stage, Aleina Elizabeth Alex of Sacred Heart School finished first, thanks to a win over Al Naseem International School’s Maryam Abdulla.

Meanwhile, the Indian School took the cricket title for the under-12 boys stage. Combined School 2 team were second, while Combined School 1 were third.

In the under-15 girls section, St. Christopher’s School were winners, followed by the runners-up the Indian School and third-placers New Indian School.

In the under-15 boys tournament, the Indian School claimed the gold medal, with Rest School coming second and New Millennium School third.

The Mini Olympics is brought up for the fifth successive year by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with over 3,500 students from 58 government and private schools competing in a record 20 sports this year.
