Kickboxing team excel

ManamaBahrain’s Khalid bin Hamad Kickboxing Team captured third place overall at the 9th Arab Clubs Kickboxing Championships held recently at the Sports Palace in Al Hussein Youth City, in Amman, Jordan.

The Nationals put on a spirited show and took four medals in total, including two gold, one silver and one bronze as they made debut in one of the region’s most challenging kickboxing events.

Mohammed Abbas took both gold medals in the K1 and Full Contact contests, while his teammate Abdulla Zayed completed Bahrain’s honour winning one silver and one bronze.

The event saw over 80 kickboxers representing 10 Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Jordan, battling for glory. The players competed over three days in three styles including Full Contact, Semi and K1, as it enabled Bahraini kickboxing chiefs to look at the current form of local fighters compared to the best in the region.

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was among high-ranking sports officials who welcomed the team on return from Amman.

Askar congratulated members of the team and conveyed the greetings of HH Shaikh Nasser in Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president, and his best wishes for the team in future events. He noted that the achievement culminates the efforts of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, first deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, honorary president of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts

Federation, and his continued support for mixed martial arts.

On his part, MMA president Khalid Al Khayyat said the results marked by members of the Bahraini team underlines the significant progress of this sport in Bahrain, thanks to the support from the country’s leadership.
