10pc clean energy by 2035: Dr Mirza

Manama : Electricity and Water Affairs Minister yesterday stressed Bahrain’s commitment to increase the percentage of non-fossil fuel power consumption to 10 per cent of total energy by 2035.

“This will be achieved after meeting the 2025 renewable energy target of 5pc,” said Dr Abdulhussain Mirza.

The minister was speaking during a Business Networking Luncheon organised by the American Chamber of Commerce at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Bahrain Bay. US Ambassador Justin Siberell, as well as businessmen and economists from Bahrain and the United States, were present.

Dr Mirza explained the participants about the upcoming 100-megawatt solar power plant being set up in Bahrain and reviewed latest developments in the net metering system meant for solar energy use in homes and industrial facilities.

The Minister thanked American Chamber of Commerce Chairman Qays H. Zu’bi as well as sponsors, speakers and participants.
