Embassy help sought to repatriate expat

Manama : Social workers have sought the help of the Indian mission to repatriate an expatriate who is bedridden in Manama for the past five years.

The 78-year-old Nalarajan’s health is deteriorating day-by-day after he was bedridden.  Hailing from the Indian state of Kerala Nalarajan  has already lost the vision of his eye.  Currently he is staying in a room near Gudaibiya with the help of a few friends who are taking care of him.

The India expatriate worked for a bakery in the early days. Later, he started his own  bakery in West Eker with the help of a Bahraini sponsor after his family came to Bahrain. Trouble started in 2011 when economic activity hit businesses following the unrest. Many shops in Eker were closed and the small-scale business of Nalarajan faced grim future. Eventually, Nalarajan  was forced to wind up his bakery business. He was in jail for issuing dud cheques and was slapped travel ban as well.  Currently, he is facing eight criminal cases and a financial liability of BD62400. The Indian community volunteers have   taken up the case  and has approached the Embassy for immediate action.

“I wish to go back to my country to meet my family,” said a desparate Nalarajan whose only hope  is the embassy and the authorities to return to his home state in India.
