Restaurant inspections in Capital to continue, says Shaikh Hisham
Manama : Capital Governorate yesterday directed officials to continue ensuring strict compliance of food and fire safety norms in hotels and restaurants there to avoid recurrence of violations.
“The security and safety requirements have been completed,” said Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Governor of the Capital Governorate during a field visit to the restaurants.
The initiative was part of the visits made by inspection committee of restaurants in the old Manama market area to ensure security and safety requirements of 160 restaurants there as part of a campaign launched by the governorate in March last year.
The committee, Shaikh Hisham said, rectified the situation of 96 restaurants in the governorate last year. Sixty-four restaurants were inspected by the committee during the first three months, this year.
Commenting on the campaign, Shaikh Hisham said, “The governorate has been able to achieve the objectives set by the committee.”
“We started monitoring these restaurants and identified the irregularities in them, and further notified them of the need to correct their situation,” added Shaikh Hisham.
The governor also made clear that the Committee will continue monitoring these restaurants to ensure that the violations and abuses aren’t repeated.
The campaign, Shaikh Hisham said, has carried out many objectives, the most important being the move to preserve the safety of restaurants and market participants.
As part of the campaign, the committee ensured installing fire extinguishers as well as placed posters in restaurants and shops in several languages with clear instructions and safety procedures to deal with fire situations.
