Sitra blast: First chase yields rich

Sitra blast suspects identified, some of them nabbed

Manama

The suspects of the terrorist blast in Sitra on Tuesday have been identified and a number of them have been arrested, said Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan yesterday. Two policemen were killed and six others were injured in the terrorist attack on July 28.

He said the forensic laboratory, after gathering evidence and conducting tests, had indicated that a high-grade explosive was used to carry out the blast. “It is the same substance that was seized while an attempt to smuggle explosives, automatic weapons and ammunition into the Kingdom in coordination with some Iranians was foiled on July 15,” he explained.

He also added that the substance was also similar to the one seized from a warehouse of high-grade explosives and bomb-making materials in Dar Kulaib village in June this year. The substance was also seized while being smuggled into the Kingdom via the sea on December 28, 2013.

Bomb-making materials that were seized in the previous cases were also found at the crime scene of this case. The Public Security Chief stressed that the investigation into the case would continue to arrest the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.

Speaking to the DT News Community Welfare Counsellor Maqsood Qadir Shah said that some of the injured were serious, but are out of danger and recovering.

He informed that the funeral prayer of the dead policemen would be performed today. It has been decided that their bodies will be flown back to Pakistan for burial.

The injured policemen include Waqas Ahmed Muhammad, Muhammad Yasir Anwer, Naveed Usman Muhammad Ilyas and Munib-ur-Rehman Fazal ur Rehman.

Policemen Muhammad Imran Muhammad Irfan and Masaad Muhammad Mohsin, who had sustained minor injuries, have been discharged from the hospital.
