Distribution of used books
Manama : Indian Expatriates Social and Cultural Forum (IndEx Bahrain) and Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) will distribute used books to students from April 1.
The books were collected during a campaign that began on March 12 that concluded here yesterday.
Distribution of books will commence on April 1 at the BKS Hall.
“BKS, Indian Club, Samastha Kerala Sunni Jamaath, Kanoo Ayyappa Temple and Sacred Heart Church participated in the collection campaign. KMCC Calicut District Ladies Wing, Koyilandikoottam also took the initiative to collect used books,” said IndEx official Rafeeq Abdulla.
Collected books have been kept at BKS for segregation. Distribution will begin on April 1, from 6:00 pm onwards at the BKS Hall.
“Apart from textbooks, parents and students have shared guides, question papers and management books. Along with it, we have arranged school stationeries for 500 students. Colouring books and storybooks for children will also be distributed,” Rafeeq said.
“We feel that parents and students have accepted the used book campaign. It is a great support to the parents, especially at the beginning of the academic year when they have more expenses. The reuse of books will also protect our nature, with less number of trees being cut,” he said.
“Several trees are cut every year for making books. This is our little endeavour towards environmental care and social commitment,” he said.
“Further, we have launched another initiative to provide free school uniforms to needy students. We have already received some applications and more are expected in the coming days,” Rafeeq e said.
