Carnatic vocalist T M Krishna to perform on April 6

ManamaVeteran Carnatic vocalist T.M. Krishna will perform at Abdulrahman Kanoo International School in Salmabad on April 6. 

The concert, being organised by Salaam Bahrain, will begin at 7 pm. The maestro will also launch his second book “Reshaping Art” at the concert, ahead of its launch in India.  This is the first time the vocalist is performing in Bahrain.

Krishna is known for the depth and melody of his music as well as his iconoclastic approach on how traditional arts should be nurtured and shared in public spaces. 

Krishna is the winner of Ramon Magsaysay award for his contribution in making classical music inclusive, taking it out of its tight-knit circle of music sabha (art societies) elitism. In the process, he launched the UrUr Festival on Chennai Elliot’s Beach, which drew huge crowds.

Known for his unconventional stand on many issues Krishna has sung on moving buses, his ‘Porombok’ song protesting the encroachment of public spaces is an anthem for activists.

The musician will be accompanied by R.K. Shriramkumar on the violin, B. Sivaraman on the mridangam and Chandrasekhara Sharma G. on the ghatam – all three of them are well-known instrumentalists.
