Special welcome for Bowling team
Manama : Members of Bahrain’s national bowling team had a special welcome on return from Muscat after winning seven gold medals at the Arab Men’s and the fourth Arab Women’s Bowling Championships at Al Seeb Bowling Centre.
The Bahraini players hogged the limelight as they clinched two gold, one silver and four bronze in this week-long competition.
Ahead of the championships, Bahrain women were the overwhelming favourite and they did not disappoint.
Bahrain’s Noora Sultan bowled her highest game to a gold-winning total, while teammate and title contender, Nadia al Awadhi, a former Arab and GCC gold- medallist, had to be content with a bronze medal after she was edged to the silver by Egypt’s Sara Gamal.
Late on, Yousif Falah kept the Bahrain flag flying high as he claimed the gold in the men’s singles competition. Egypt’s duo of Ayman Hashim and Ahmed Gamal halted the Bahraini domination as they picked the silver and bronze respectively.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar gave a thumb up for the impressive results of the team as he led high-ranking sports officials at the reception ceremony.
Joined by Bahrain Bowling Assocaition president Ahmed Al Nuaimi and other board members and BOC sports affairs executive director Abduljalil Asad and BOC media and public relations director Mohammed Lori, Askar congratulated the team on their results and wished them progress.
